healing What is a deductible? What is co-insurance?
In relation to your insurance policy, a deductible is the amount of money which the patient must pay before the insurance company will begin applying payment for coverage. Usually the higher the deductible, the lower the cost of the health insurance plan.
Co-insurance comes into effect once your deductible has been met. Insurance plans set a percentage of covered expenses that the patient and the health insurance plan will pay. The most common co-insurance level is one in which the patient pays 20 percent of the expenses and the insurer pays 80 percent. This is called 80 percent co-insurance.
